Knowledge Centre: Piling and Shoring Guides
Our piling and shoring guides grew out of the answers we give to the questions we hear most often on site. How does the price build up, which method should you choose, how do you protect the building next door, how do you test a pile? We wrote every guide from our own site experience and reliable sources.

Piling and shoring guides: cost and price
We do not publish fixed prices, because cost changes with the ground, the quantities and the site. Instead, we explain how a price builds up and how it can come down without giving up safety.
How Is Bored Pile Cost Calculated?
The factors behind the rate, a worked quantity example and what a quote covers.
7 Ways to Reduce Shoring Costs
From the site investigation to mixed solutions, and from the programme to the anchor layout.
Choosing a method and a foundation
The right method decides both cost and safety. So these two guides set the options side by side and help you compare them.
Bored Piles, Jet Grouting or Micropiles?
How the three methods differ and how we decide on site.
When each one is enough; in addition, the piled raft and ground improvement options.
Piling and shoring guides: deep excavation and neighbours
In Istanbul, most basement excavations open right next to an adjoining building. Protecting that building, in fact, is the main job of the shoring.
Choosing the shoring, the survey before excavation, measuring and monitoring.
Getting the wall close to the boundary and, in addition, protecting the neighbour’s footing.
Quality, testing and site mistakes
You cannot see pile quality with the naked eye; however, testing and proper construction secure it. These two guides explain what we check and why.
Pile Integrity Test, CSL and Load Test
What each test shows and does not show, and what to do before testing.
For example the tremie pipe and anchor stressing: what goes wrong and what to do instead.
Ground and deep excavation in Istanbul
Soft sediment on the Golden Horn and fractured rock in Sarıyer do not call for the same excavation. For example, on the coast the problem is water, whereas in the rock zones it is sliding wedges.
Istanbul Ground Conditions and Deep Excavation Guide
Ground by area, common problems and the usual solutions.
Site-specific boreholes, sampling and a ground report.
How do we write our piling and shoring guides?
- We write every guide from the experience of our founder, Abdullah Çetintaş, and our site team.
- In addition, the site examples come from our own projects; you can see the quantities on the project pages.
- For general information, we also cite peer-reviewed papers, standards and regulations.
- However, we do not write price figures, because they change on every project.
- On legal matters, we recommend that you consult a lawyer; the final technical decision, by contrast, belongs to the designer.
- Finally, we update the guides with new questions and new site experience.
Frequently asked questions about our piling and shoring guides
We have collected the questions about the guides that we hear most often. However, if yours is not here, call us or write through the quote form.
The guides
Is the information in the guides enough for my project?
No, because the guides give general information and help you ask the right questions. Your project, however, rests on the site investigation and the designer’s calculations.
I have a question the guides do not cover. How can I ask it?
Call us or write through the quote form. In addition, we turn frequent questions into new guides over time.
Who writes the guides?
Our founder, Geological Engineer Abdullah Çetintaş, and our team. Moreover, Abdullah has worked on site in ground engineering and foundations since 2006.
Why don’t you give price figures?
Because the cost of the same work varies a great deal with the ground, the quantities and the site. That is why we explain how the price builds up instead and quote from the quantities.
