Geotechnical Engineering Services: Deep Foundations, Shoring and Ground Improvement

Our geotechnical engineering services range from piled foundations and deep excavation shoring to ground improvement, site investigation and design. Also, from our base in Istanbul we work across Türkiye and in Central Asia.

Geotechnical engineering services: deep foundations and piles

When the ground cannot carry a load, we take it down to a firm layer with piles. However, the ground, the load and the site decide which pile to use.

Bored Piles

Piled foundations and retaining walls up to Ø2000 mm and 70 m.

CFA Piles

Especially fast continuous flight auger piles in wet, loose ground.

Micropiles

Deep foundations in tight spaces, in basements and even inside existing buildings.

Underpinning

Strengthening the ground and foundations without demolition; for example with micropiles or jet grouting.

Shoring and deep excavation support

We hold the ground and neighbouring buildings safely during basement excavations. In addition, excavation depth, water and neighbours decide the system.

Bored Pile Walls

Spaced, contiguous and secant pile walls.

Ground Anchors

Tie the wall back to firm ground; as a result, the wall moves less.

Soil Nailing

Economical nailed walls, especially on slopes and shallow cuts.

Shotcrete

Facing for cut faces and slopes; also fills between spaced piles.

Ground improvement methods

We strengthen weak ground in place, cut off water and reduce the risk of liquefaction. However, the ground type and the purpose decide the method.

Jet Grouting

Jet 1 and Jet 2 columns, walls and cut-off under foundations.

Deep Soil Mixing (DSM)

Mechanical mixing over large areas; for example, under embankments and soft clay.

Soil Grouting

Void filling and water cut-off; also densifies the ground.

Dynamic Compaction

Compaction with a heavy pounder, especially in loose fill over large areas.

Site investigation, testing and design

We run investigation, testing and design with specialist partners. As a result, we plan this work together with construction and bring the results straight to site.

Site Investigation and Drilling

Boreholes, SPT, sampling and the soil report.

Pile Testing

PIT, load tests, coring and monitoring.

Geotechnical Design

Shoring, piled foundation and ground improvement design.

Equipment Fleet

Our piling, anchoring and lifting equipment.

Marine structures and construction

We also bring our ground and foundation expertise to marine structures and building construction.

Quay Construction

Piled quays and foundations for coastal structures.

Urban Regeneration

Flat-for-land and turnkey rebuilding in Istanbul.

Construction Services

Turnkey construction from the ground to the roof.

Our Projects

For example, Karaköy, Küçükçekmece, Tashkent and Avcılar.

Geotechnical engineering services: which method for which problem?

You often know the problem but not the name of the method. So the table below is a first guide; the site investigation and the design make the final call.

ProblemPossible solution
Deep basement dig next to a neighbourUsually an anchored bored pile wall
Excavation below groundwaterSecant piles and a jet grout base
Ground cannot carry a new buildingBored piles or CFA piles
Settlement and cracks in an existing buildingMicropiles, jet grouting or grouting
Loose fill over a large areaUsually dynamic compaction or DSM
Liquefaction riskJet grouting, DSM or dynamic compaction
Structure on the waterfrontA piled quay and ground improvement

Write to us even if your problem is not in the table. Then we will look at your site investigation and choose the right method together.

Why choose Fen Zemin for geotechnical engineering services?

  • Piles up to Ø2000 mm and 70 m long, and supported excavations up to 30 m deep
  • Our own fleet: Sany SR285R and Jintai SD28W piling rigs, Casagrande C6 and Soilmec SM14 anchor and micropile rigs, and a 60-tonne crawler crane
  • Our founder, Abdullah Çetintaş, has been on site since 2006 and in earlier roles worked on jet grouting jobs totalling more than 300,000 m
  • Completed work across Türkiye and in Uzbekistan
  • Specialist partners for investigation, testing and design; a single responsible contractor on site

Frequently asked questions about our geotechnical engineering services

We have collected the general questions we receive most often. Also, each service page has its own questions about that work.

General

Where do you work?

Our office is in Ümraniye, Istanbul. In addition, we work in every province of Türkiye and have also worked in Uzbekistan.

What should I send for a quote?

Generally, the site investigation report, any design and the site address are enough. However, write to us even if documents are missing; we make an initial assessment and fill the gaps together.

Why don’t you publish prices on the website?

Because the cost of the same work varies a great deal with the ground, the quantities and the site. That is why we quote from the quantities.

Do you carry out the site investigation and design yourselves?

We run investigation, testing and design with specialist partners. By contrast, our own crews and rigs carry out the construction.

When does the rig arrive on site?

We bring the rig to site on the date we agree together at quote approval and in the contract.

Do you combine several services on one project?

Yes. For example, we built secant bored piles and jet grouting together in Karaköy, and bored piles with anchors in Küçükçekmece. As a result, one team manages the programme.
