Also known as passive anchors, ground nails are used in wall-like structures to retain excavation surfaces or ensure slope stability. Pre-stressing is not applied to soil nails. Applied as temporary soil nail or permanent soil nail. In this system, after each excavation stage, passive anchor drilling is performed either by applying a preliminary shotcrete lining depending on ground conditions or without it in suitable ground conditions. A reinforcement of appropriate length is placed into the drilled hole as per the project design, and the hole around the reinforcement is filled with cement grout. The shotcrete is reinforced with mesh steel reinforcement to prevent cracking. In cases where the system is designed to be permanent, corrosion-prevention measures such as PVC sheaths around the reinforcement or epoxy-coated reinforcement are applied.
