It is also known as sprayed concrete; in T\u00fcrkiye it is p\u00fcsk\u00fcrtme beton. In excavation and slope work it covers the ground and stops it from falling away or drying out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, it is not a load-bearing system on its own. That is why we usually use it with soil nails, ground anchors or bored piles. In these systems, shotcrete is the facing that holds the soil between the elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where is shotcrete used?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list fz-checks\">\n<li>Between the piles of spaced bored pile walls<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As the facing on soil nail walls and slopes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To protect temporary cut slopes from rain and drying<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In underground work such as shafts, galleries and tunnels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To repair old walls and reinforced concrete surfaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"methods\">Shotcrete methods: dry mix and wet mix<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two methods. In the dry method the material enters the gun dry and water joins it at the nozzle. On small, scattered jobs and tight sites, however, the dry method is practical. Therefore, we choose the method with you based on the size of the job and the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"uses\">Shotcrete for shoring and slope facing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In shoring we use shotcrete mostly with two systems. There is no formwork, so surface preparation and layer thickness directly decide the quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list fz-svc-steps\">\n<li><strong>Surface preparation:<\/strong> We clear loose soil and trim the surface.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Drainage:<\/strong> We install drainage strips and weep holes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reinforcement:<\/strong> We fix the steel mesh on spacers, clear of the surface.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Spraying:<\/strong> We hold the nozzle square to the surface and build the concrete up layer by layer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Curing:<\/strong> We protect the surface from drying out and check the thickness.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group fz-svc-note is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The most common mistake we see on site:<\/strong> reusing rebound that has fallen to the ground. This material is low in cement and weakens the facing. For example, we check thickness with depth markers placed before spraying, or by drilling. If the ground dries out or takes rain, it starts to ravel.
